Cubs' Starlin Castro Questioned By Police, Not Charged, Will Attend Cubs Convention

Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro talked with Chicago police at the Belmont Area Headquarters from Thursday night into Friday morning regarding sexual assault charges stemming from events that allegedly took place back on September 29, 2011. The questioning lasted for many hours, but Castro was not under arrest and left the station without being formally charged. He issued an official statement to the media on Friday afternoon:

"I personally, and through my attorneys, have fully cooperated with the police in this matter," Castro said in a statement Friday. "Unfortunately I cannot address the matter further at this time while the investigation is taking place. I understand that being a member of the Cubs means being a hard worker on the field and a good citizen off the field, and I always want to carry myself in a way that exceeds high expectations."

The young shortstop will attend the Cubs Convention at the Chicago Hilton and Towers and will participate in the team autograph signing event, but is not expected to join in the scheduled media session.
