Dempster Continues Dominance Of Brewers In Series Opener

During Spring Training Cubs Manager Mike Quade named Ryan Dempster the Opening Day starter and the ace of the staff. It took Dempster about a month and a half to receive the message, but after an outing like Monday it is clear why he was Quade’s choice.

The Cubs (26-39) returned home after a miserable 2-8 trip to take game one of the four game series against their rivals from the North. The story in Monday’s game was the starting pitchers for both teams.

Ryan Dempster continued his domination of the Brewers (38-29). Although he didn’t figure in on the decision, Dempster went seven strong innings allowing no runs on just four hits. He also struck out seven. In his career, Dempster is 15-3 with an ERA of 2.60 against Milwaukee.

Randy Wolf was just as good for the Brewers. Wolf also went seven innings and allowed no runs on six hits. The Milwaukee lefty also struck out seven batters.

The lone run of the game was scored by Darwin Barney on a fielders choice. Jeff Samardzija, who pitched a perfect eighth inning, picked up the win to improve his record to 4-2 on the season. Kameron Loe (2-6) took the loss for the Brewers. Carlos Marmol finished the game earning his 13th save of the season.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday evening at Wrigley Field.

Cubs Return Home To Open Series With Brew Crew

The Cubs are returning home to the friendly confines after a 2-8 trip. It will be interesting to see how friendly Wrigley will be as the Cubs welcome the first-place Milwaukee Brewers to town for a four game set. With the Brewers playing so well and the stands at Wrigley looking about three quarters full most of the season, it's a good bet that the stands will be occupied by a lot of Brewer fans.

Ryan Dempster will start the series opener for the Cubs (25-39). Dempster has really turned things around lately. In his last  eight starts he is 4-2 with an ERA of 3.67. Even better news for the Cubs is the success Dempster has had against their neighbors from the north. In 44 games against the Brewers, Dempster is 15-3 with an ERA of 2.60.

Randy Wolf gets the start for the Brewers (38-28) on Monday Evening. Wolf has pitched well this season for Milwaukee with a 4-4 record and an ERA of 3.49.

This will be the second series between the two clubs this season. In early April Milwaukee won two of three at Miller Park.

The weather forecast at the time of first pitch is sunny skies with temps in the 60's. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 CST. The game can be seen on CSN.
