Derrick Rose Injury Update: Bulls PG 'Ahead Of Schedule' In Rehab

Derrick Rose is still the key to anything the Chicago Bulls hope to accomplish in 2012-13 and beyond, and nearly six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair the torn ACL in his left knee his doctor is confident that the star PG is "ahead of schedule" on his rehabilitation. The initial timetable for his return was set at 8-12 months -- which would likely sideline him for the entire upcoming season -- but other more optimistic figures like a 6-9 month recovery have also been floated.

Although the timetable for Rose's recovery has not officially been revised from the 8-12 month quote, the former MVP traveled to Alabama for a visit a therapist in Dr. James Andrews' office earlier in the week and then team physician Dr. Brian Cole told Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com Rose is "ahead of schedule" on his rehab:

"Derrick is ahead of schedule," Cole said in a phone conversation Wednesday night.

...Cole also brushed aside speculation that Rose has had a setback in the process.

"Nothing could be further from the truth," Cole said. "He's ahead of schedule. [The rehab] is a way to keep things fresh for Derrick, to help give him some variety."

Positive news on Rose is certainly something that will help the organization focus on adding a contributor to help the team next season in the upcoming 2012 NBA Draft.
