Luol Deng Injury: Forward Hurt Ribs Against Detroit; Status For Monday May Be Up In The Air

Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng is still playing through a wrist injury, and on Sunday night he took a painful shot to the ribs from Ben Gordon. It is not yet known how this injury will affect Deng's availability on Monday or in what little remains of the regular season, and according to the Tribune, Deng and Tom Thibodeau have talked about the forward's role down the stretch.

Sources said Deng and Thibodeau have recently talked about his role down the stretch. Deng emphasized he wants "to keep in playing rhythm" but conceded some rest might be required, especially for the three remaining back-to-back sets of games.

Bulls Vs. Pistons Score Update: Late Shot From Rose Forces OT

After struggling to find his rhythm since his return from injury, Derrick Rose has started to show some flashes of his MVP form against the Detroit Pistons. Despite a disappointing second half performance as a team, Rose showed his ability to thrive in clutch situations, as he hit a three-pointer with just seconds remaining to tie the game at 86 and force overtime.

Rose looked confident throughout regulation, scoring 24 points and dishing out eight assists to help keep the Bulls in the game. Joakim Noah has also been very productive, netting 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for the double-double. Unfortunately, Luol Deng has really struggled with his shot, scoring only two points on 1/8 shooting from the field.

The Pistons have been able to compete in this game despite shooting only 40% from the field as a team. Rodney Stuckey has led the way for Detroit with 24 points on just 5/16 shooting from the field.

Bulls Vs. Pistons Score Update: Chicago Leads By 8 At Half

Although the opening half wasn't a thing of beauty, the Bulls do hold a 49-41 lead.

Derrick Rose looked very impressive in the first 24 minutes, scoring 12 points and dishing out four assists. Joakim Noah used his size and energy to be a menace on the boards, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds. As a team, the Bulls shot 51.1% from the field in the opening half.

NBA Standings 2012: Chicago Sits 3.5 Games Ahead Of Miami

With just seven games left in the abbreviated season, the Chicago Bulls are in pretty good shape in the Eastern Conference standings. Going into Sunday evening's game against the Detroit Pistons, the Bulls are currently 45-14 this season despite losing four of their past ten games.

But with the Miami Heat failing to surge late in the season, the Bulls are still 3.5 games ahead of their biggest competition in the conference. The upstart Indiana Pacers have won eight of their past ten games to lock up a playoff spot with a 38-22 record, but they're still 7.5 games behind Chicago.

At this point, the most important thing for Chicago is to get point guard Derrick Rose healthy. As good as the Bulls play when C.J. Watson and John Lucas are their primary ball handlers, the reigning MVP will be key for the team to play at its highest level.
