Derrick Rose Injury: Bulls Point Guard Could Be Held Out All Weekend

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose has been plagued by an assortment of injuries this season, and his latest nuisance has nothing to do with the turf toe or back ailments that kept him sidelined for a stretch earlier this season. The Bulls did the unthinkable and knocked off the Miami Heat last night without Rose, who sat to rest his injured groin. The Tribune's KC Johnson says don't expect Rose back in the coming days.

The Bulls are off today, but host the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.

Bulls-Heat Breaks Record For Local TV Ratings

It would be hard to blame Chicago Bulls fans if they felt like bypassing Wednesday night's game against the Miami Heat altogether after it was learned that star guard Derrick Rose would sit out to nurse his injured groin. But as Chicago has proven time and time again in the Tom Thibodeau era, the team has a way of grinding out victories even under unlikely circumstances, and Wednesday night was a prime example: led by third string point guard John Lucas III and some hot three-point shooting, the Bulls knocked off the Heat 106-102.

Turns out Chicago fans did indeed flock to their televisions. From ESPN Chicago:

The Bulls' victory over the Miami Heat on Wednesday drew a 6.2 rating in Chicago on ESPN, making it the highest rated regular season game in the city in the network's history.

Overall, the game did a 2.2 national rating, making it the third-highest rated game of the season for ESPN.

Chicago and Miami will play next at the United Center on April 12.

Heat Vs. Bulls Final Score: Chicago Prevails Over Miami Without Derrick Rose

Can you believe this? The Chicago Bulls, without star guard Derrick Roes, just defeated the Miami Heat at the United Center, 106-102. Chicago led by as many as 17 in the third quarter, and hit a slew of clutch free throws at the end to withstand a Dwyane Wade-fueled comeback by Miami. The win improves Chicago to 36-9 overall, while Miami falls to 31-11.

John Lucas III paced the Chicago victory, somehow, some way. Lucas had scored 24 points and hit a plethora of back-breaking shots, even as Miami switched LeBron James onto Chicago's third string point guard late in the fourth quarter. Joakim Noah scored 14 points for Chicago. Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver each had 12 points for the Bulls. Luol Deng and C.J. Watson each scored 11 in the win.

LeBron James scored 35 points in the loss for Miami, but only two points in the fourth quarter. Dwyane Wade had 36 for the Heat.

Heat Vs. Bulls Score Update: Chicago Leads 81-70 Heading Into The 4th Quarter

The Chicago Bulls have made 9-of-13 three-pointers en route to building a 81-70 lead over the rival Miami Heat as the two teams head into the fourth quarter at the United Center. Hot shooting has fueled this improbable Chicago lead without reigning MVP Derrick Rose, who's nursing a groin injury, but the Bulls also hold a big edge in rebounds (38-28) and assists (18-13)

Miami trailed by as much as 17 points in the third. Four Chicago scorers have already reached double-figures, led by 13 points off the bench from third-string point guard John Lucas III. Ronnie Brewer has 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, and has played valiant defense against Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. C.J. Watson has 11 points and Joakim Noah has 10 points for Chicago after three.

Miami is led by James, who has 33 points. Wade has 17 points.

Heat Vs. Bulls Score Update: Chicago Leads 53-42 At The Half

Well, get a load of this: without reigning MVP Derrick Rose, the Chicago Bulls have raced out to a 53-42 lead over the Miami Heat at the United Center. The Bulls are 6-of-9 from three-point range, and 10 Chicago players scored in the first half. The Bulls are also out-rebounding Miami 27-19. The Bulls have 14 assists, Miami has nine.

Point guard John Lucas III was in the unlikely hero for the Bulls in the first half, scoring a team-high 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field. Taj Gibson has eight points and four rebounds for Chicago off the bench. Four Chicago players have six points. Carlos Boozer finished the half with two points, seven rebounds and five assists.

LeBron James has 20 points at halftime for the Heat. Dwyane Wade has 13 points and five rebounds on 6-of-14 shooting. Chris Bosh has seven points on 2-of-9 shooting.

Here's video of Noah's dunk over Joel Anthony in the second quarter:

Heat Vs. Bulls Score Update: Chicago Trails 23-19 After 1st Quarter

Games between the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat generally feel like an event to be witnessed, but with guard Derrick Rose sitting tonight because of a groin injury, it doesn't feel like there's as much at stake. Even still, Chicago wants to keep Miami from catching them atop the Eastern Conference in the loss column. After a quarter, Miami leads Chicago 23-19.

All of the Heat's points were scored by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. James ends the quarter with 14 points and three rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting. Wade has nine points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Chicago is led by Ronnie Brewer, who has six points. Taj Gibson has eight points and three offensive rebounds already.

What's also troubling for Chicago is that guard C.J. Watson -- Rose's backup -- appeared to have re-injured his ankle. Watson remained in the game, but was seen hobbling for a few possessions.

Derrick Rose Injury: Bulls PG Won't Play Against Miami

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will sit out of Wednesday's game against the Miami Heat while dealing with a sore groin, as the team announced. Rose was a game-time decision for the game along with back-up C.J. Watson, who is suiting up to start in place of the reigning MVP.

Replacing Rose on the roster for the night is veteran Mike James, who was recently signed to another 10-day contract as Chicago searches for some backcourt depth. The star point guard took a good deal of hard contact in Chicago's last game against the New York Knicks, and the team says that they're just giving Rose a rest to avoid excessive wear and tear.

Watson has been sidelined lately with a sprained left ankle, but he's going on Wednesday for the first time since March 4. It's also been confirmed that Luol Deng will start for Chicago tonight after missing the team's past two games.

Derrick Rose Injury: Bulls PG Not Likely To Play Against Heat

It isn't looking likely that Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will suit up as the team hosts the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The reigning MVP has battled a host of injuries all season long, with a groin issue only being the latest problem.

Despite the injuries, Rose hasn't missed a game since Feb. 18, when the Bulls had an uncharacteristic loss at home against the New Jersey Nets. With the Heat posing as the Bulls' biggest threat to making the NBA Finals, it will be massively disappointing if the Bulls are missing their two best players when the two teams face up.

At the moment, it appears that both Rose and his back-up, C.J. Watson, are game-time decisions for Wednesday's game. If neither player can go, the Bulls will be starting third stringer John Lucas III in Rose's place, with the recently-signed Mike James backing him up.

In seven games this month, the Bulls have gone 6-1 so far. Rose is averaging 24.3 points and 9.4 assists per game in March.
