2012 NBA MVP Power Rankings: Chicago's Derrick Rose Jumps To No. 3

Even while he's been limited by back spasms, the Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose has been moved up to No. 3 on Tom Ziller's 2012 NBA MVP Power Rankings for SB Nation. The league's reigning MVP was placed No. 4 on Ziller's list last week, but the team's play when Rose is healthy has left a strong impression:

The Bulls have managed to hang on in Rose's repeated injury absences, but turn into an absolute juggernaut when he's back on the court. Watching how hard Luol Deng -- an incredible player -- has to work to fill Rose's gaps is telling.

Deng has been quite impressive in Rose's absences, but the point guard continues to be the centerpiece of Chicago's master plan for success. He's been exceptional for the Bulls when on the court this season, averaging 22 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game.

Miami's LeBron James continues to lead the pack in Ziller's MVP power rankings, followed by Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant. Two guards from Los Angeles, the Clippers' Chris Paul and the Lakers' Kobe Bryant, round out the top five.

NBA MVP 2012 Power Rankings: Rose Sticks At No. 4

In the most recent edition of his 2012 NBA MVP Power Rankings, SB Nation's Tom ZIller ranks Chicago Bulls PG Derrick Rose fourth amongst all players in the NBA. Having the fourth most valuable player in the NBA is nothing to scoff at, but it may be considered by some to be a disappointment, or a slight, considering that Rose won the award last season.

Nonetheless, Rose still has plenty of time to prove that he deserves to repeat as MVP, and ZIller still ranks him a the best point guard in the NBA, ahead of Chris Paul (at No. 5) and Russell Westbrook (at No. 10. Ziller ranks LeBron James— arguably Rose's chief rival— at No. 1 with Kevin Durant behind him at No. 2 and Kobe Bryant rounding out the top three.

2012 NBA MVP Power Rankings: Chicago's Derrick Rose Ranked No. 6

The latest 2011-2012 NBA MVP power rankings have been published by SB Nation's own Tom Ziller, Miami Heat forward LeBron James continues to lead the pack. Overall, the top three players on the list didn't check this week, as James, Thunder forward Kevin Durant and Lakers guard Kobe Bryant held their places.

Last year's MVP, Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose, probably won't repeat and take the award home again this season, but Ziller still has him ranked No. 7 overall.

Should the Bulls be forced to play without Luol Deng for a stretch (which isn't obvious thanks to Chicago's Belichickian secrecy on injuries), Rose will become even more important as his offense will be needed to counteract certain defensive slippage. Thankfully, Rose has shown a wonderful ability to step up from his already mammoth production when needed.

Rose has missed some time this season with a turf toe injury, although that hasn't stopped Chicago from having the league's best record so far. Even without being totally healthy, he continues to be a major asset and one of the best players in the NBA.

The rest of Ziller's top 10 includes Orlando's Dwight Howard at No. 4, Minnesota's Kevin Love at No. 5, Houston's Kyle Lowry at No. 7, Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge at No. 8, Cleveland's Kyrie Irving at No. 9 and Los Angeles' Chris Paul at No. 10.
