Bucks Vs. Bulls: Derrick Rose To Play Against Milwaukee

The Chicago Bulls will once again have starting point guard Derrick Rose in the lineup as they face the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago. Rose previously missed five games recently with back spasms, but he played in Chicago's most recent game against the Atlanta Hawks and is expected to play once again against Milwaukee.

Even while having the limiting back injury, Rose played well against Atlanta on Feb. 20, scoring 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting in addition to grabbing five rebounds and dishing six assists. A relatively healthy Rose would obviously be a nice boost for the Bulls against the Bucks, who happen to have an explosive young point guard of their own in Brandon Jennings.

After Thursday's game, the Bulls have Friday off before returning to action on Saturday afternoon against New Jersey. There's no telling exactly what Tom Thibodeau means by "very close," but it does suggest that Rose will be back in the next few games.

The Celtics game will be the fourth game in a row that the Bulls star has missed.

Derrick Rose Injury Update: PG Warmed Up In Shootaround, Game-Time Decision For Thursday Vs. Celtics

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has been dealing with back spasms and missed the first matchup against the Boston Celtics on Sunday -- a 95-91 loss that featured a 32-point, 15-assist, 10-rebound triple-double by Rajon Rondo -- but he is trying to make sure he plays in the rematch. Rose warmed up in morning shootaround on Thursday and will receive treatment before the game, according to Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com, and the reigning league MVP told Aggrey Sam of CSN Chicago he is a game-time decision.

However, maybe he isn't quite ready to make his return to the lineup. K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune adds that Rose merely shot free throws during the practice and the team's star even admitted "I wasn't able to run any." C.J. Watson struggled to contain Rondo in the first matchup, and didn't do very well on the offensive end either. He scored 22 points on a paltry 34.8 percent shooting (8-23), and even after scoring eight points and dishing out an assist during the final 5:06 of the game, he missed a driving layup with 49.9 seconds left, rushed an errant three-point attempt with 27.6 seconds and missed his second free throw that would have cut the margin back to three points during the Bulls' last best chance with 11.9 seconds on the clock.

Chicago Bulls Rumors: Mike James Nearly Replaced Jeremy Lin In New York

Before the New York Knicks handed Jeremy Lin their point guard job and started the sporting world's newest fascination with a young athlete, the Knicks nearly released Lin in order to sign guard Mike James. James, who recently signed with the Bulls, told ESPN Chicago's Melissa Isaacson that the Knicks were considering adding him in place of Lin.

James, 36, spent time with Chicago earlier this season while reigning MVP Derrick Rose was dealing with a turf toe injury, and the team has brought him back into the fold now that Rose is struggling with some back issues. Although the Bulls have two solid alternatives to Rose in C.J. Watson and John Lucas III, the team doesn't want to risk being forced into a situation without an obvious point guard.

In three games with the Bulls this season, James is averaging 4.0 points and 3.6 assists per game. In his final game before Rose returned to take his place, James notched nine points and ten assists against the Charlotte Bobcats on Jan. 21.

Derrick Rose Injury: Guard Hopes To Get Over Back Pain In 'A Couple Of Days'

Derrick Rose is sitting out again on Tuesday night, but the point guard said on Tuesday afternoon that he expects to get over the back pain in the next couple of days. Rose, who saw a specialist on Monday, has been and continues to be considered day-to-day.

"I shouldn’t have any problem in the long run," Rose said. "This back pain should be behind me in a couple of days. I should be back out there soon. I’m going to take my time and be smart and make sure I’m stretching."

Derrick Rose Injury: Rose Officially Out Vs. Kings, Bulls Set To Re-Sign Mike James

Derrick Rose did not participate in a team shootaround this morning due to back spasms, and soon after that head coach Tom Thibodeau ruled Rose out for Tuesday's game against the Sacramento Kings. Rose is scheduled to address reporters before the game, but this is still the best-case scenario for everyone involved. Rose visited a back specialist on Monday who confirmed via an MRI that he is only dealing with lower back spasms and that there is no structural damage to his back, so now it is likely just a matter of resting his muscles and allowing them to recover properly.

According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, the team will re-sign veteran point guard Mike James to a 10-day contract in meantime. James averaged 4 points and 3.7 assists in three games with the Bulls during a stretch in January when Rose and C.J. Watson were both dealing with injuries.

Derrick Rose Injury: GM Gar Forman Speaks On Injured Star

An MRI revealed today that there is no structural damage to the back of Chicago Bulls star point guard Derrick Rose, who has been in and out of the lineup the last week with what doctors confirmed as back spasms. Rose will remain listed as day-to-day as Chicago begins a six-game homestand on Tuesday vs. the Sacramento Kings.

Bulls GM Gar Forman spoke to reporters today about Rose's MRI results. Per the Chicago Tribune:

"When we all feel he feels well enough to play, he'll be back out there," general manager Gar Forman said. "He could respond overnight. It could be a couple days. When it's muscular, you don't know. But this is positive."

"Derrick is a competitor and always wants to play," Forman said. "We'll be smart about this, but there's a difference between whether a player is hurting and injured. If a guy is hurting, obviously they have to make a determination on how much they feel they can do. If a player is injured and could do greater harm, we're not ever going to put him out there."

"Does a player have input? Of course he does," Forman said. "It's their body. But, again, if a player is injured, we're not ever going to put him out there."

Derrick Rose Injury Update: MRI Reveals No Structural Damage To Guard's Back

Derrick Rose saw a specialist in Chicago on Monday to get his back injury checked out; fortunately for Rose and the Chicago Bulls, an MRI indicated that there is nothing structurally wrong with his back -- the injury is muscular, and Bulls GM Gar Forman called Rose "day-to-day." Forman said Rose will continue with the same treatment he had been receiving prior to the examination, and they'll just have to wait and see when he's ready to play again.

"The course of action we've been taking we'll continue with, and that is the constant therapy, the massage, and working with our medical staff," Forman said. "You don't know when it's muscular like this. It could respond overnight, it could be a couple days, you just don't know. But the positive is that the MRI was negative and structurally there's nothing wrong."

Derrick Rose Injury Update: Rose Expects Update on Tuesday

As the Chicago Bulls return to the Windy City for a short homestand, most fans have their mind less on who the Bulls will be playing, and whether or not they'll be playing with star point guard Derrick Rose. Rose and the team have been relatively mum on the status of his back spasms, which have now held him out for two straight games, and that shifty silence doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

In an interview with CSN Chicago, Rose said that he will visit a doctor early this week and hopes to have an update on his status by Tuesday, when the team will take on the Sacramento Kings. With the Bulls losing to the Boston Celtics on Sunday, Rose may be targeting the teams' rematch this Wednesday as the point of his return. "It's just tough missing games, period," Rose said after the loss to Boston. "Especially against a good team like this, it's just tough not being out there."

Derrick Rose Injury Update: Point Guard Will See Specialist Monday

Derrick Rose has been bothered by a back injury since the start of Chicago's nine-game road trip, and he's either been limited or had to skip games over the last week. Rose will see a specialist about the injury on Monday in Chicago and says he's just trying to keep a positive attitude about the ordeal.

"It's been hurting the whole trip," Rose said. "I just played through it. It tended to get worse after every game. I was really worried about it. But I'm trying to stay positive. I don't know what the diagnosis is. I just know my back is not right."

Derrick Rose Injury Update: Bulls Star Won't Commit To Playing Sunday Against Celtics

Chicago Bulls superstar and reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose is still considered day-to-day with back spasms. He sat out of Friday night's blowout win against the Charlotte Bobcats. Rose's replacement in the game, C.J. Wilson, ended up leading the team in assists for the night.

On Saturday morning, Bulls beat reporter K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reported that the Bulls had arrived in Boston and were holding a film session and walkthrough at local Division III college UMass Boston. He relayed the information that Rose was not ready to commit to playing in Sunday's game against the Boston Celtics.

The team would probably benefit from Rose's presence on Sunday a bit more than against the Bobcats, but the Celtics have been struggling as of late and are coming off a road loss against the Toronto Raptors.

VIDEO: Derrick Rose Suffers Back Injury Vs. Nets, Considered Day-To-Day

The Chicago Bulls cruised to a 108-87 road victory over the lowly New Jersey Nets on Monday night, but the team suffered a bit of a scare when star point guard Derrick Rose left for the locker room in the second quarter after re-aggravating a lingering back injury. He did not return to the game in the second half and finished with only four points in 11 minutes of action, but neither Rose nor head coach Tom Thibodeau sounded too concerned after the game.

Aggrey Sam of CSN Chicago caught up with Rose after the game, and the all-star guard sounded fairly optimistic about the situation:

"Right now, I feel all right. Just back spasms, nothing to worry about. [Tuesday] we have a day off, get treatment, get a massage and hopefully I'll be playing next game," Rose said afterwards. "It was tight the whole game. It's just something where I've got to get a massage and stretched the right way, and hopefully it'll be gone.

"I can't remember when it happened. I was tight a couple of games ago, but tonight was pretty tough and intense," he continued. "For right now, I'll be playing next game. It's nothing like I'm going to be sitting out. I always want to think positive, just try to keep things going our way."

Here is the full video of the interview and the play where Rose re-aggravated his back injury:
