Chicago Bulls will rely on Taj Gibson to play center at times

Eric Hartline-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Chicago's bruising backup will see time at the five this year, according to Tom Thibodeau.

After a myriad of offseason moves, the Chicago Bulls will use training camp and the preseason to begin to figure out their upcoming rotation for the 2012 season. One thing the Bulls are prepared to do, according to head coach Tom Thibodeau, is play Taj Gibson at center. Thibodeau spoke to reporters on Tuesday about why Gibson will work at the five:

"His strength, I think, is his versatility. Of course, defensively he has the ability to guard, in some cases, all five positions and I think he's gotten more comfortable offensively playing the five. He's certainly very capable at the four and we may even look at him at the three. I think he's done extremely well and this is the first summer the last two years in which he's been healthy, so he had a very productive summer. He's really added a lot to his game."

Gibson, of course, is Chicago's stalwart backup power forward, but with the Bulls have lost some bulk on their bench after Omer Asik defected to the Houston Rockets. Alongside Gibson in the Bulls' frontcourt rotation are newcomers Nazr Mohammed and Vladimir Radmanovic, though the latter isn't known as a bruiser. The Bulls are also likely to add Kyrylo Fesenko some time in November.
