Chicago forward Marco Bellinelli hasn't hit a 3 in three preseason games
In three preseason games, Marco Belinelli has not hit a three-point shot in six attempts, and is shooting 30 percent from the field. The Italian forward was signed for his shooting, but he says the scoring will come as he adjusts to a new system:
"I didn't take a lot of shots in these three games because on the team I'm focused on defense ... But of course I don't want to use that as an excuse. I know that I have to score. I work every day on that.
Belinelli is a 37% shooter from long range over his five-year career, and shoots above 42 percent overall. His shooting averages in 2011-12 were very close to his career norms. Belinelli played in all 66 games for the Hornets last season, and averaged 14.3 points per game.
Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau says he wants Belinelli "playing to his strengths." Thibodeau won't make exceptions for any player's defense, but he doesn't sound like he expects Belinelli to be the second coming of Bruce Bowen. "He'll find his way," the coach says. "I just want him to play the best defense of his career, whatever that might be."
