Blackhawks Free Agency 2012: Martin Brodeur Has Mutual Interest In Joining Blackhawks

While it was reported earlier in the day that the Chicago Blackhawks are interested, free agent goaltender Martin Brodeur apparently has mutual interest in the possibility of joining the team, as a source tells Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago. The 40-year-old Brodeur has played for the New Jersey Devils during the entirety of his 19-year career.

A four-time Vezina trophy winner, Brodeur has never played for another team, but it appears that he's entertaining the possibility now that he's an unrestricted free agent this summer. Contract negotiations with the Devils reportedly broke down earlier this week, allowing other teams to get into the mix for the legendary goaltender.

At this point, it's unclear if the Blackhawks have actually made an offer yet, but they can offer him an immediate spot as the starter for one of the Western Conference's top teams. Chicago's top-two goalies from last season, Corey Crawford and Phil Emery, are both under contract, but Brodeur would provide a significant upgrade.
