It was a pretty good first day of the draft for the Chicago Blackhawks when Teuvo Teravainen fell a bit farther than most analysts expected. Chicago swiped the young Finnish winger up quickly and SB Nation's NHL Draft Grades, released right after the end of the draft, gave them high marks for the selection.
Chicago Blackhawks: With the addition of Teuvo Teravainen, Chicago gains another skilled winger in the mold of a Patrick Kane, but his speed and hands should hopefully overcome the concerns about his size that led to the Finnish forward falling in the draft. B+
Having a guy in the mold of Patrick Kane, no matter how small the 5'11'' winger might be, is never a bad thing and is a comparison that Blackhawks fans will be smiling at. Small players aren't always effective in the NHL, but there are plenty of examples including Buffalo's Nathan Gerbe that show size doesn't always matter.
Obviously it wasn't enough of a problem to keep the Hawks from getting a solid B+ out of the grades.

The Chicago Blackhawks added to their future on the first night of the 2012 NHL Draft when the picked Finnish forward Teuvo Teravainen with the No. 18 overall pick in the first round. But that's only the beginning, as the team will pick seven more times across the draft's final six rounds on Saturday morning and afternoon.
The Blackhawks in recent years have shown that they have no problem with jettisoning veterans and giving their roles to younger players, so the players drafted on Saturday could become familiar faces in the team's rotation a few years down the road. All of Chicago's picks on Saturday will come at No. 18 in each respective round, with the exception of their second pick in the fifth round, which will come at No. 28.
