Blackhawks Offseason: Chicago Re-Signs Jamal Mayers

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a one-year, $600,000 contract with Jamal Mayers, as Nina Falcone of CSN Chicago reports. Falcone notes that he likely won't be a key contributor next season, but Mayers has legitimate value to the team.

Despite being a healthy scratch during the end of the playoff series against the Coyotes, Mayers proved to be a leader who added physical presence to the team and could be relied on during the penalty kill.

The Blackhawks have good depth on the fourth line, so Mayers is mostly depth, but he does give Chicago another solid veteran presence. The 37-year-old has experience playing with the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks during his 16-year career.
