The Chicago Blackhawks are finished. Chicago trailed just 1-0 heading into the third period in Game 6 against the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2012 NHL playoffs, but an avalanche of goals by the Coyotes in the third put away a 4-0 victory for Phoenix.
What's extra frustrating for Chicago is that they nearly doubled Phoenix's number of shots on goal. Chicago held a 39-20 advantage in shots, but Coyotes goalie Mike Smith -- the No. 1 star of the game -- was up for the challenge, turning away the 'Hawks at every opportunity.
Gilbert Brule made it 2-0 Phoenix just two minutes into the third period. Antoine Vermette scored his fourth goal of the series on a power play 10 minutes later. Kyle Chipchura scored the last goal for the Coyotes.
