The Chicago Blackhawks got off to a fast start on Thursday night after some changes -- 19-year-old Brandon Saad was a starter on Jonathan Toews line, for example -- but Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith was up to the task and Coyotes were able to weather that storm. After one period of play, there is no score.

Chicago out-shot Phoenix 11-5 in the period, and the Coyotes also blocked eight shots; the Blackhawks had the only power play opportunity of the first 20 minutes.
The teams are tied in the faceoff circle at 6-6, while the Coyotes hold a 13-10 edge in hits.
