Trailing the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1, Brandon Bollig managed to gain an edge on the Phoenix defense and fire a long-distance shot for a 39-foot goal and 2-2 game.

The Chicago Blackhawks could not maintain the tie, however, as Antoine Vermette responded less than 2:00 minutes later with his second goal of the game. On a power play following an Andrew Shaw penalty, the Coyotes crowded the Chicago defense, slipping the puck past G Corey Crawford:
With the second period drawing to a close, the Blackhawks will look for some quick scoring and staunch defense to keep from a 2-0 deficit.
