Blackhawks Vs. Red Wings Score Update: Chicago Earns Impressive Win

Throughout the season, Joe Louis Arena has been one of the most difficult places for road opposition to earn a victory. However, the Chicago Blackhawks proved just how good they can be when everything is clicking, as they went into Detroit and knocked off the Red Wings with a 2-1 victory.

Patrick Sharp was the driving force for the Blackhawks in the victory. Sharp scored the opening goal of the game and also dished out the assist on the game-winner in the second period. Patrick Kane netted the game-winner for Chicago, which came with less than two minutes remaining in the period. Roy Emery was solid in net for Chicago, making 23 saves.

The lone goal for the Red Wings was scored by Niklas Kronwall and was assisted by Darren Helm and Brad Stuart. Despite only attempting 18 shots in the game, Chicago did just enough to leave Detroit with the key win.

Blackhawks Vs. Red Wings Score Update: Chicago Leads Heading Into Third Period

The Chicago Blackhawks have fit the definition of inconsistency throughout the season. Long winning streaks have been followed by lethargic play and extended losing streaks. However, when Chicago is playing at its best, it has the ability to defeat any team in the NHL. This talent has been on display during the first two periods in Detroit, as the Blackhawks hold a 2-1 lead over the Red Wings heading into the final period.

An entertaining first period featured two goals in the first 10 minutes, with the Blackhawks taking an early lead. Chicago took advantage of a Power Play opportunity, with Patrick Sharp netting his 25th goal of the season . However, the Red Wings responded just minutes later courtesy of a goal from Niklas Kronwall.

Despite a handful of opportunities, neither team found the back of the net until late in the second period. Patrick Kane ultimately gave the Blackhawks the lead, as he netted his 16th goal of the season on an assist from Patrick Sharp.

Jonathan Toews Injury: Blackhawks Captain Ruled Out For Remainder Of Road Trip

After leaving some hope that Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews would be able to return before the end of the team's road trip, coach Joel Quenneville has ruled him out for the remainder of the trip.

ESPN Chicago's Jesse Rogers has the quotes from Quenneville, who says that Toews won't play on Sunday against the Detroit Red Wings or Tuesday against the St. Louis Blues.

Still progressing but no change. He's not on the ice. He's not going to be on the trip.

Toews has missed Chicago's past six games with what's been officially described as an upper body injury, but ESPN has sources that say the injury is actually a concussion. The Blackhawks are 3-3 without their captain in the lineup. Quenneville also told reporters that defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson won't be playing against the Red Wings on Sunday, either.
