Blackhawks Vs. Devils: Martin Brodeur Shuts Down Chicago During New Jersey Victory

Blackhawks Vs. Devils Final Score: New Jersey Edges Chicago 2-1 In A Shootout

The Chicago Blackhawks out-shot the New Jersey Devils 38-22 during their Tuesday night meeting, but the Devils' future Hall of Fame goalie wasn't about to let his team lose. Martin Brodeur was brilliant throughout and made several keys stops in the decisive shootout to lead New Jersey to a 2-1 victory. The 'Hawks will get a point out of it, which gives them 93 on the season. New Jersey gets its 92nd point while improving its record to 43-28-6.

New Jersey took a 1-0 lead into the second period, but Chicago would force overtime when Brent Seabrook finally beat Brodeur. Seabrook's eighth goal of the season was set-up by teammates Dave Bolland and Niklas Hjalmarsson.

After neither team could score in the five minute extra period, the New Jersey goalie would again shine in the shootout. Brodeur only allowed one goal (to Patrick Sharp) and made two saves as the Devils win the shootout round 2-1. Travis Zajac, the Devils' fifth shooter, scored the final goal.

Blackhawks Vs. Devils Score Update: New Jersey Up 1-0 Through 2nd Period

The Chicago Blackhawks were not able to break through in either of the first two periods on Tuesday night, and they trail the New Jersey Devils 1-0 through 40 minutes of play. Petr Sykora has the only goal of the game, which came on a power play opportunity in the last five minutes of the first period.

The Blackhawks put 10 shots on goal in the second period and have the overall edge 23-15 in shots on goal. They've failed to convert on a pair of power play opportunities, while New Jersey is 1-2.

The Devils also hold the edge in faceoffs, 19-16, and hits, 7-6.

Blackhawks Vs. Devils Score Update: New Jersey Leads 1-0 After 1st Period

The Chicago Blackhawks out-shot the New Jersey Devils 13-11 in the first period on Tuesday night, but they trail on the scoreboard 1-0. Petr Sykora got New Jersey on the board with a power play goal at the 15:42-mark of the period; it was his 18th goal of the season. Adam Henrique and Mark Fayne were credited with assists.

Chicago had a power play opportunity of its own but could not convert. New Jersey won 12 of 20 faceoffs in the first and the hits were even at three apiece.

The Blackhawks are trying to bounce back from a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.
