The Chicago Blackhawks scored three goals in the third period en route to a stunning 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday afternoon. After allowing the Blues to score a goal in the first period, the Blackhawks trailed for most of the game until the offense came alive in the final 15 minutes.
For most of the game, Chicago struggled offensively, mustering just 13 shots on goal during the game's first two periods. Blues goaltender Brian Elliott had little trouble stopping the Blackhawks for that span, but the wheels came off for St. Louis as Chicago became more aggressive.
In the third period, Chicago finally looked like the offense that's among the league's best in terms of goal scoring. Getting more shots on goal in the third period than the first two combined, the Blackhawks finally got to Elliott with a pair of goals from Duncan Keith and Dave Bolland before Marian Hossa scored a last-minute goal on an empty net to put the game away.

The Chicago Blackhawks had a bit more luck getting shots on goal against the St. Louis Blues in the second period, but they still trail 1-0 going into the game's final period on Sunday afternoon. After a pair of games that showed off just how good the Blackhawks can be offensively, they've struggled to put the puck in the net against an elite St. Louis team.
After allowing the Blues to take a major advantage in terms of shots on goal in the first period, the Blackhawks did a better job of attacking offensively in the second period but couldn't take advantage of those opportunities. Blues goaltender Brian Elliott has been impressive so far, saving all 13 shots that Chicago has sent in his direction.
The Blues still have a sizable advantage in shots on goal, but Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford did a good job in the second period to prevent the lead from expanding. Capitalizing on power play opportunities should be important going forward, as Chicago has gone 0-for-3 with the advantage so far.

The Chicago Blackhawks are still trying to make up for ground that was lost during a recent, brutal losing streak, but they're trailing 1-0 against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday afternoon. The two teams were scoreless for most of the first period in the United Center, but the Blues broke through with the game's first score less than a minute before the end of the period.
Despite having two power play advantages in the period, Chicago looked pretty outmatched by St. Louis early. The Blues dominated in terms of shots on goal with a 14-4 advantage, and Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford could only keep the St. Louis offense in check for a bit. The Blues' Andy McDonald scored the goal with 24 seconds left in the first period, his third of the season.
