Jonathan Toews got the scoring started with a penalty shot goal a little over a minute into the game; it was his 28th goal of the season. Nick Leddy scored about a minute after that to give Chicago a quick 2-0 lead. The onslaught continued when Patrick Sharp scored two minutes after Leddy's goal, and Marian Hossa later picked up the fourth goal of the period for Chicago.
Unofficially, Chicago out-shot New York 10-5.
