The Chicago Blackhawks were defeated 5-4 by the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night after a spirited comeback in the game's final period. The Blackhawks blew a 2-1 lead and trailed 4-2 going into the third period, but they managed to come back and tie things late. A penalty gave the Flyers a last-minute power play, and they were able to capitalize.
Philadelphia's James van Riemsdyk scored the game-winning goal, his second of the game and his 11th of the season.The Flyers built their lead in the second period, as the Blackhawks let the flood gates open and allowed three goals over the course of just a few minutes.
That run turned a 2-1 Blackhawks lead into a 4-2 deficit, although Chicago came back with a quick pair of goals late in the third period to tie things up. Ultimately, though, the Blackhawks couldn't hold off that final Flyers power play and push the game into overtime. Chicago has now lost three times in four games, although it still has the second-best record in the Western Conference.
