The Chicago Blackhawks got some goal scoring from an unlikely place early on Thursday night when fourth-liner Jimmy Hayes got the Hawks on the board with his second goal of the season. Chicago maintained that lead until the Flyers pulled even in the last minute on a goal by Jakub Voracek, his sixth tally of the season.
Aside from a fight between Chicago's Andrew Shaw and Philadelphia's Zac Rinaldo -- which left Shaw bloodied -- there were no other penalties in the opening period. Shaw would later return to the game.
The Flyers had a 13-7 edge in shots on goal and also won 11 of 18 faceoffs.
