Blackhawks Vs. Flames Recap: Flames Take Down Hawks 5-2

The NHL's best team certainly didn't play like it on Friday night. The Calgary Flames (8-9-1) snapped the Chicago Blackhawks' (12-5-3) four game winning streak with a 5-2 home victory. The Flames were led by winger Curtis Glencross, who netted his sixth and seventh goals of the season to put the game out of reach.

The scoring started in the first period, when Calgary's Lee Stempniak but the Flames on the board with a little under six minutes elapsed in the game. The Blackhawks tied the game just over a minute later on Viktor Stalberg's fifth goal of the season, but that would be as close as Chicago would get all night.

The second period belonged to Calgary, who notched three goals to the Blackhaws' one. The Flames went up 2-1 on Rene Borque's sixth goal of the season, and then 17 seconds later that lead was widened when Calgary's Paul Byron put his second goal of the season past Corey Crawford. Marian Hossa brought the Blackhawks back to within one on a power play goal with just over fifteen minutes to play in the period, but the Flames went up 4-2 six minutes later on Glencross' first goal of the game.

The third period was quiet aside from Glencross' second score of the game, which extended the Flames lead to 5-2, a lead which they would not relinquish. The Blackhawks will be back on the ice tomorrow night as their tour through Western Canada beings them to Edmonton.
