Blackhawks Vs. Canucks Recap: Chicago Blackhawks Win Behind Three Third Period Goals

It would be unfair to say the Chicago Blackhawks extracted a certain amount of revenge on the Vancouver Canucks tonight for their Game 7 defeat in the first round of last year's playoffs, but the 'Hawks will gladly take a 5-1 win at Rogers Arena as a consolation prize.

The game was 2-1 with 10 minutes remaining until Chicago's offense found an extra gear. Captain Jonathan Toews scored off feeds from Viktor Stalberg and Marian Hossa for his team-leading 10th goal of the year. Patrick Sharp would beat Cory Schneider for his sixth of the year minutes later, thanks to assists from Nick Leddy and Patrick Kane. Steve Montador added the final goal of the night -- and his second point of the game. Assists would be credited to Toews and Hossa.

Hossa led the game in points by tallying three assists. The Canucks out-shot the Blackhawks 29-27 on the evening.

The Chicago Blackhawks head into the third period of their rivalry game against the Vancouver Canucks up 2-1 thanks to second period goals by Andrew Brunette and Patrick Kane.

After a scoreless first period, it didn't take long for the Canucks' offense to find its footing in the second. Jannik Hansen found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season just :38 seconds into the second period to give Vancouver a 1-0 advantage.

Brunette would tie it up at one five minutes later with a power play goal, his fourth score of the year. Marcus Kruger and Steve Montador were credited with assists.

Patrick Kane gave Chicago its first lead of the night halfway through the period. Kane's power play goal was his seventh of the season. Marian Hossa and Duncan Keith were credited with assists.

Blackhawks Vs. Canucks Score Update: First Period Ends Scoreless

The 'Hawks and Canucks skated to a 0-0 first period in their highly anticipated matchup at Rogers Arena. Vancoeuver out-shot Chicago 10-8, and edged the Blackhawks 6-3 in takeaways. The Caucks also out-hit Chicago 10-6 in the first period.

Chicago center David Bolland, who's status was uncertain coming into the day, logged over four minutes of ice time in the first period.

Scratches for the Canucks included Roberto Luongo, who will miss the game thanks to an upper body injury. For Chicago, defenseman Brent Seabrook will sit out with a lower body injury.

As expected, Cory Schneider got the start in net for Vancouver. Starting netminder Corey Crawford is between the pipes for the Blackhawks. Crawford entered the game 8-4-2 with a .905 save percentage.

Dave Bolland Injury Update: Blackhawks Forward Likely To Play Wednesday

Chicago Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland is expected to play against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night, returning to the team after missing the past three games.

Bolland, 25, missed the past three games after suffering a right leg injury while attempting to block a shot against the St. Louis Blues. He's been limited in practice over the past few days, so he may not end up taking his usual place on the checking line.

He's replacing Rotislav Olesz in the lineup for Wednesday's game. Head coach Joel Quenneville told reporters today that Olesz has been placed on waivers, meaning that he'll be sent to the minors in 24 hours if no team places a claim by then. The left wing didn't practice with the team on Wednesday.
