Tied going into the third period, the Chicago Blackhawks (6-2-2) got aggressive and impressive in the final period, winning with a strong 5-2 showing against the Columbus Blue Jackets (1-9-1).
With a total of four separate goals called back for a variety of kicking and interference penalties, the third period quickly became the most aggressive of the game. Fortunately for the Hawks, Viktor Stalberg seemed invisible to the Blue Jackets defenders, making his first two goals of the season and giving the Blackhawks a 4-2 lead only 4:26 into the final period.
Team captain Jonathan Toews took a harsh tumble late in the game, leaving with an apparent injury. Fortunately, the Blackhawks persevered without him, holding strong to their lead while Ray Emery, manning the net for the Blackhawks tonight, compiled 27 saves en route to the Hawks win.
With only second left in the game, Michael Frolik scooted the puck in for an empty net goal, giving Chicago a 5-2 win.

The Chicago Blackhawks entered the second intermission tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-2.
The Blue Jackets, who have scored more than 2 goals only twice all year, matched the Hawks' score when Derek MacKenzie popped a loose puck past Ray Emery 14:02 into the second period. MacKenzie took advantage of a melee breaking out around the net when the puck slipped away from the four or five icemen near the goalie.
Early in the second period, it appeared the Blackhawks were poised for a 3-1 lead when a shot ricocheted off the top crossbar of the Blue Jackets goal, but video review confirmed the official's on-ice call of no goal. Apparently, after rocketing off the crossbar, the puck then narrowly missed the net, hitting the sidebar and returning harmlessly to the ice.
In the coming third period, the Blackhawks hope to reduce their turnovers -- now standing at 7 giveaways to the Blue Jays 2 -- and put away the seemingly inferior Blue Jays team.

The Chicago Blackhawks made short work of ending their scoreless streak, putting up two quick goals in the first period of tonight's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Just less than three minutes into the game, center Marcus Kruger deflected the puck into a fistful of empty net, giving the Blackhawks a quick 1-0 lead.
The Blue Jackets, who have won all of one game this year, responded in kind, as Vaclav Prospal slipped the puck past Ray Emery and his swanky new mask four minutes later.
Then, with the game tied 1-1, Dave Bolland -- who already had a pair of tripping penalties called on him -- broke away from the Blue Jackets defenders and awkwardly crashed and slid towards Jackets goalie Allen York, somehow sneaking the puck through for a dramatic 2-1 lead.
