Hockey back-to-backs used to be more plentiful; now they’re rare, particularly in the preseason.
But that’s what the Hawks and Wings will do tonight, after meeting last night in Detroit. The game will be televised on WGN (Chicago only) and the NHL Network. It begins at 7 p.m. CDT.
Corey Crawford, the Blackhawks backup goaltender this season, played the entire game against the Red Wings in Detroit Friday night and faced 36 shots.
He saved 33 of them, but it wasn't enough for a Blackhawks win; the Hawks lost 3-2. Jeremy Morin (assisted by Tomas Kopecky and Brandon Pirri) scored the first goal and then Pirri (assisted by Brian Campbell and Morin) scored 40 seconds into the third period to make it close, but that was all the scoring.
The two teams will play again tomorrow night at the United Center at 7 p.m. CDT; the game will be televised on WGN (Chicago only) and the NHL Network.
Even though it's just an exhibition game, the Tribune's Chris Kuc says expect intensity in tonight's Blackhawks/Red Wings game:
"It's going to be a fast-paced game no matter who's out there playing," Hawks captain Jonathan Toews said. "We know the style they're going to play and that's up and down, really fast and they'll move the puck well. We'll have to work really hard to stay in there and keep them away from our net."
Corey Crawford, who will be the Hawks #2 goaltender this season behind Marty Turco, will start and is expected to play the entire game.
The game begins at 6 pm CDT and will be televised on CSN Chicago.
Blackhawks Win Rematch With Red Wings 4-2

Ryan Potulny added a goal for the Blackhawks, who won the team’s first title in 49 years with a six-game Stanley Cup Finals victory over Philadelphia. New starting goaltender Marty Turco stopped 23-of-25 shots to record the win.
Drew Miller and Valtteri Filppula scored for the Red Wings. Chris Osgood took the loss after yielding four goals on 34 shots.
