Tasty slices of Chicago sports from our editors
While most of Chicago's attention is focused on tonight's Bears game, the Blackhawks defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in front of an announced crowd of 19,692 at the United Center.
The game, scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. CDT so that it would end in time for people to watch the football game, conveniently ended just moments before the Bears received the opening kickoff.
Hawks goals were scored by Tomas Kopecky, Troy Brouwer, Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews; all but Brouwer's were on power plays. Marty Turco made 20 saves in goal including a couple of outstanding stops in the game's final minute after the Blues had pulled their goalie for an extra skater.
The Blackhawks open the regular season on Thursday in Denver against the Avalanche; the game will begin at 8 p.m. CDT and be televised on Versus.
