Stay connected for news and updates

Chicago Bears wide receiver Devin Hester was excused from practice on Thursday according to head coach Lovie Smith, who did not elaborate. And while linebacker Brian Urlacher worked out with the team on Thursday, though the Bears were careful about how much they let him do.

Bears coach Lovie Smith announced "Hester was excused today," but didn’t elaborate on why.

Hester attended lunch with the team in the dining hall at Olivet Nazarene University, but was a no-show nearly three hours later on the practice field. Urlacher, meanwhile, took repetitions during the early portion of practice devoted to individual position work before briefly wrapping his knee in ice and sitting out for the remainder of the workout.
