Bears Training Camp News: RB Michael Bush Reluctantly Accepts Short Yardage Role

The Chicago Bears -- hedging their bets against the possibility of a contract holdout from RB Matt Forte -- signed veteran RB Michael Bush in the 2012 offseason. The 6-foot-2, 243-pound Louisville native is expected to be the Bears' go-to back in the red zone in 2012. But, according to Bush, he'd rather be more of a complete back:

... Bush does not exactly embrace the short yardage role. "That’s the role I’ve been stuck with because of my size," he said. "But if that’s what I have to do, that’s what I have to do."

Asked if he dislikes that role, he said, "No one likes to be a battering ram. It just happens that way."

Bush has 2642 rushing yards in his four-year NFL career -- all with the Oakland Raiders. He ran for 977 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2011, and ranked as the 26th best running back in the league, according to advanced stats from Football Outsiders.
