Bears QB Jason Campbell Rated No. 2 Backup In NFL

Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery moved quickly in the off-season to shore up the team's quarterback depth by grabbing veteran QB Jason Campbell, and if Campbell is needed at any point this year things should go a lot better than they did during the Caleb Hanie experience. In fact, Dan Hanzus of NFL.com took the time to rank the top backup QBs in the NFL and Campbell fit in as the second-best replacement signal caller in the NFL, behind former Bears QB Kyle Orton (now with the Dallas Cowboys).

To get an idea of just how well the Bears did in landing Campbell as the backup to Jay Cutler, take note that the other QBs to make the list included Tim Tebow at No. 3, Jake Locker at No. 4 and T.J. Yates at No. 5. Nobody in that trio has a proven track-record in the NFL, while Campbell has a 60.8 percent completion mark and has thrown for 14,417 yards with 74 touchdowns over his NFL career. As Hanzus notes: " Campbell has a big arm, and could form a potent tandem with Brandon Marshall if ever given the chance." Layer Mayer of the team website also points out that Campbell's 82.8 career passer rating would rank No. 1 all-time in Bears history.
