2012 Bears Offseason: Chicago To Tryout Veteran DT Trey Lewis

As the Chicago Bears continue to look to add depth to their defensive line, the team will tryout veteran defensive tackle Trey Lewis sometime within the next few days, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs. According to Biggs, the Bears scouted Lewis "heavily" when he was coming out of Washburn University in 2007, and though Chicago did not end up drafting him, he was picked by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round when current Bears GM Phil Emery was the director of college scouting in Atlanta.

Lewis hasn't played in an NFL game since Week 1 of the 2010 NFL season, but that may be more due to health than talent. Lewis worked his way into Atlanta's starting line up in his rookie season, but he tore his ACL towards the end of that season and then tore it once again while rehabbing. He was inactive for all but one game of the 2010 season, and was out of the league last year.

If Lewis is healthy, and that's clearly a big "if," he may be worth a flier.
