Johnny Knox Injury: Coach Lovie Smith Gives Vague Update On WR's Condition

"Are you a religious man? Do you talk to God? He can probably tell you."

This was Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith's harrowing response when asked about the condition of wide receiver Johnny Knox, who suffered a horrific-looking back injury last December in a game against the against the Seattle Seahawks. Knox caught a pass and turned up field before fumbling and watching the ball tumble backwards. When Knox dove for the loose ball, he was hit hard, his upper body bent back by a Seattle defender.

While Smith and the Bears are being vague and cautious when it comes to prognosticating Knox's future, reports last week said Knox will likely start the season on the PUP list, meaning he won't be able to play for six weeks.

Personally, we're just glad Knox will be able to walk again. Watching the hit in slow motion, it seems like the Bears wide receiver could have been paralyzed.

Here's what Smith said, defiantly, about Knox's recovery time:

"Doctors know?" Smith asked. "Give me his number and I'll call him as soon as we stop talking. I just know that Johnny is working hard each day. He has made a lot of progress. That's all we want, for Johnny to keep rehabbing, which is what he's doing. It's amazing how people are already diagnosing when he's coming back."
