Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith says the team won't be adding a veteran wide receiver in free agency, despite multiple injuries at the position.
In the wake of an injury to wide receiver Earl Bennett, Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith has said the team has no plans to add a veteran wide receiver from free agency, according to ESPN.
Smith says the team is going to be fine with the guys they have now, as the team expects to get both Alshon Jeffery (knee) and Devin Hester (concussion) back in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Against the Seattle Seahawks, Bennett went down with a concussion, while both Jeffery and Hester were out. So Brandon Marshall was paired with Eric Weems, who has primarily been a kick returner his entire career, and Dane Sanzenbacher.
Marshall is quoted as saying that the organization will do what is right and move forward, whether it be signing a player (he name drops Mike Sims-Walker, a personal friend) or not. Smith said that Marshall feels good about the rest of the guys on the roster though, and reiterates that there are no plans to add another body.
