Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler wants to match 'Super Bowl-caliber D'

Cutler wants to see the Bears' offense "pick up the pace" and match the play of their elite defense.

The Chicago Bears may be 7-1, but quarterback Jay Cutler knows the offense needs to be better if the Bears are going to make a deep playoff run. Cutler wants the offense to step up their play to match a "Super Bowl-caliber defense" that has carried the Bears to their strong start.

The quarterback admitted on ESPN 1000's "The Jay Cutler Show" that he does not want his offense to be the reason the Bears fail to win a Super Bowl (via ESPN Chicago):

"Offensively, I still feel like we have a long way to go to catch (the defense)," he said. "We have to raise our game up to their level because they're playing lights-out football. At the end of the day, I don't want it to come back on the offense and say, ‘Hey, you didn't win the Super Bowl. You didn't go this far because the offense was lacking.'"

Chicago's defense was at its best on Sunday in a 51-20 win over the Tennessee Titans. The Bears forced five turnovers and scored their seventh defensive touchdown of the season on a 46-yard interception return from Brian Urlacher.

The Bears' offense, on the other hand, got off to another slow start and benefited from great field position early on before starting to click later in the game. This has been a trend for the offense in several other games this season.

Cutler knows that at some point, the offense is going to have to play to its potential in order for the Bears to be successful. The schedule begins to toughen up this Sunday when the Houston Texans come to town, so now would be a good time to "pick up the pace" offensively.
