With starting quarterback Jay Cutler out with a concussion, the Chicago Bears planned on using their dominant defense to compete Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers. Things have not gone according to plan, as the Bears trail the Niners after one quarter, 10-0.
Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick, starting in place of the injured Alex Smith, torched the Bears' vaunted defense in the first quarter. Kaepernick engineered two long scoring drives to start the game to give the Niners their 10-0 lead, completing 8-of-9 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown. Tight end Vernon Davis caught three passes for 37 yards and the touchdown, while rookie Kyle Williams caught two passes for 60 yards, including a big 57-yarder to set up Davis' 3-yard score.
