Chicago Bears expect more from Devin Hester

Chicago Bears special-teams coordinator Dave Toub is looking for more from Devin Hester.

Devin Hester is probably the best return man in the history of the NFL, but he hasn't been very good in that phase of the game this season and special teams coordinator Dave Toub wants more from Hester immediately. Hester's questionable decision-making and poor approach to return angles got him benched during the team's Week 7 win, and those issues have cropped up far too many times so far in 2012.

If Hester wants to avoid more opportunities getting funneled to Earl Bennett and Eric Weems in the coming weeks, Toub says he will have to become more aggressive in heading up field with the ball, via ESPN Chicago:

"He probably made some decisions in that game he would probably take back. He might have returned that last one possibly, but that's just the way it is. Most of the time he's going to make the correct decision. We just want him to get that aggressiveness back and we think we'll get sooner or later.

"One thing about Devin I've learned over the years with Devin is that if he gets off to a good start he's pretty much dangerous the whole game. That's one thing we are trying to get going with him is to get him off to a fast start."

Hester has returned 12 punts for a total of 91 yards and 10 kickoffs for 269 yards so far in 2012, and he has yet to break any big returns. His longest punt return is 23 yards, and on kickoffs he hasn't topped 38 yards.

He will get chances to redeem himself in Week 8 when the Bears take on the Carolina Panthers.
