GIF highlights of Bears vs. Lions

The Bears beat the Lions 13-7 on Monday night, and these are some of the highlights from the game, captured in gif form.

Bears knock off Lions, 13-7

The Chicago Bears defeated the Detroit Lions, 13-7, on Monday Night Football to improve to 5-1 and take over first place in the NFC North.

Chicago got on the board early with a touchdown on its first offensive possession. Jay Cutler was sharp on the drive and found Brandon Marshall for a 7-yard touchdown pass. From then on, it was more about the Bears defense than their offense. Chicago harassed Matthew Stafford all night, while forcing four Detroit turnovers.

After struggling to even pick up a first down during the first half, Detroit had some success in the second half, but was unable to capitalize. Then the Lions drove into the Bears redzone four times in the second half, but the Bears defense forced a turnover on three of the four possessions.

The Chicago defense also did an excellent job of shutting down Calvin Johnson. Johnson did not have a catch in the first half and finished with just three catches for 34 yards.

While the Bears got the win and moved into first place in the NFC North, there may be some concern over the health of Cutler. He took a big hit from Ndamukong Suh in the first half and missed some time as he was evaluated for a rib injury. He returned to play the second half, but appeared to be in pain at times and was not as sharp.

Detroit narrowly avoided the shutout, scoring a touchdown with 30 seconds to play.

Fantasy studs and duds

Matt Forte ran for 96 yards. Brandon Marshall caught six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. The Bears' defense also racked up fantasy points with four turnovers and two sacks while also allowing just seven points.

Calvin Johnson was unable to get much going, catching three passes for 34 yards.

Injury report

Jay Cutler left the game briefly with a rib injury but returned to play the entire second half. Nate Burleson suffered a knee injury during the second half and did not return to the game.

Did they cover?

The Bears opened as a 6½-point favorite and appeared to be in position to cover, but the late Lions touchdown meant Chicago failed to cover.

Chicago leads Detroit 13-0 after third quarter

Quarterback Jay Cutler returned for the Bears' first possession of the second half to lead Chicago to a 21-yard field goal, extending its lead to 13-0 in the opening minutes of the third quarter.

Cutler missed the Bears' final offensive possession in the second quarter after being brought down violently by Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. He was taken to the locker room before the end of the half, and backup Jason Campbell played the final possession of the second quarter.

The Bears initially went three-and-out on their first offensive possession of the second half, but the Lions' Stefan Logan muffed the ensuing punt and Chicago recovered to continue its drive.

The Lions had an opportunity to score in the red zone at the Bears' 1-yard line, but running back Joique Bell fumbled on second down and Chicago linebacker Brian Urlacher recovered to end the threat.

The Lions offense has been held to 193 yards, and has turned the ball over three times through three quarters.

Bears running back Matt Forte has 18 carries for 87 yards.

Chicago leads 10-0 at halftime

The Chicago Bears lead the Detroit Lions 10-0 at halftime on Monday night, but the Bears may be without Jay Cutler, who left the game late in the first half with a possible rib injury.

Cutler was injured when he was sacked awkwardly by Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Cutler returned to the game after missing one play, but went into the locker room early with a possible rib injury. Before he left, Cutler completed 9-of-17 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed twice for 35 yards.

Matt Forte had a solid first half, rushing 13 times for 69 yards. Brandon Marshall caught four passes for 56 yards in the first half, including the Bears' lone touchdown. The Bears added a Robbie Gould field goal for the 10-0 lead. Chicago had a chance to extend its lead, but Gould had a second field goal attempt blocked.

While the Bears have had their moments, Detroit's offense was unable to get much going offensively. Detroit racked up just 91 yards in the first half, gaining two first downs. Matthew Stafford completed 8-of-15 passes for 43 yards while Calvin Johnson was held without a catch.

The Bears will get the ball to begin the second half.

Jay Cutler injury: Bears QB has bruised ribs

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler went into the locker room before halftime after taking a big hit from Ndamukong Suh.

The Bears said Cutler was taken into the locker room for further examination of his ribs. Cutler landed awkwardly when he was sacked late in the second quarter, with Suh landing on top of him. Cutler remained down momentarily, then jogged off to the sideline.

Jason Campbell came in for the Bears for one play before Cutler re-entered the game. He threw a pass and appeared to be alright, but was taken into the locker room prior to Chicago's next possession. Cutler appeared to land on Suh's leg, possibly taking a knee to the ribs.

Cutler completed 9-of-17 passes in the first half, throwing for 73 yards and a touchdown. He also ran twice for 35 yards. In relief of Cutler, Campbell threw one pass for zero yards while scrambling one time for five yards.

Bears lead 10-0 after first quarter

After the Lions offense went three-and-out on the opening possession of the game, the Bears orchestrated a six play, 59-yards drive that culminated in a Brandon Marshall 7-yard touchdown reception to put Chicago up 7-0 early in the first quarter.

The Lions offense struggled in the first quarter as quarterback Matthew Stafford was 3-of-7 for 12 yards through the air and Mikel Leshoure had 4 carries for 22 yards for 34 total yards of offense. Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson was targeted three times but failed to catch a pass in the opening quarter.

Conversely, Matt Forte carried five times for 43 yards and seven different Chicago wide receivers had receptions in the first quarter.

The Bears had six first downs to the Lions one and held the ball for more than half of the first quarter.

Bears kicker Robbie Gould added a 39-yard field goal with 1:29 remaining in the first quarter to extend Chicago's lead to 10-0.

Lions vs. Bears inactives: Zack Bowman is active

After missing the past two weeks while recovering from knee surgery, Detroit Lions defensive end Corey Williams is active and expected to play against the Chicago Bears on Monday night, although he won't start the game. The team's inactive list does include cornerbacks Jacob Lacey and Bill Bentley, leaving Detroit's secondary rather thin.

Out since Week 3 with the knee injury, Williams' return should bolster a pass rush that's currently just 20th in the NFL in sacks. In the first three games of this season, the 32-year-old recorded six tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble, although he was quiet in a 44-41 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Without Lacey (concussion) and Bentley (shoulder), the Lions are turning to rookie Jonte Green at cornerback on Monday night, according to Lions beat writer Tim Twentyman. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 draft out of New Mexico State.

As for the Bears, fullback Evan Rodriguez and cornerback Zach Bowman are among those active this week that didn't play against the Jaguars two weeks ago. Rodriguez has been dealing with a knee injury but appears good to go, while Bowman was signed recently due to the injury of cornerback Sherrick McManis.
