Bears tackle Chris Williams was cut from the team on Tuesday. Williams, the 14th overall selection in the 2008 Draft, was one of only two first-round picks from Jerry Angelo's tenure still on the Chicago roster.

Williams was inactive in the Bears' last two games. Six-year veteran Jonathan Scott, signed on Sept. 10, was given a chance to play in those two games and evidently showed the team enough to make Williams superfluous.

Williams started 38 games as a Bear in his first four years with the team. He had not started a game in 2012, after losing the starting left tackle job to J'Marcus Webb in training camp. Williams' contract was set to expire at the end of 2012; he is owed $1 million for the year.

Chicago filled Williams' spot on the 53-man roster with Zack Bowman, a cornerback who played for the Bears from 2008 through 2011 before signing a one-year deal with Minnesota this past offseason. Gabe Carimi, the Bears' right tackle, is now the only Jerry Angelo first rounder remaining with the team.
