NFL Playoff Schedule 2012: Super Bowl XLVI Set For Giants Vs. Patriots

After an exciting day that saw both the AFC and NFC conference championship games come down to the wire, the 2012 Super Bowl matchup is set: the New England Patriots will battle the New York Giants in a rematch of Super Bowl XLII, which was won by the Giants.

In the first game of the day, the Patriots defeated the Baltimore Ravens after Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff's game-tying (and overtime-forcing) 32-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left. Joe Flacco threw for 306 yards and two scores in defeat, while Tom Brady threw for 239 yards and was intercepted twice.

The New York Giants beat the San Francisco 49ers 20-17 in overtime later on Sunday afternoon, and special teams once again proved a huge factor; as it was a fumbled punt by San Francisco's Kyle Williams that set up New York's game-winning field goal in the extra period.

New York and New England will meet in Indianapolis on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, in Super Bowl XLVI. Kickoff is set for 5:29 p.m. CT, with television coverage by NBC.

NFL Playoff Schedule 2012: Conference Championship Weekend Set

With an exciting divisional round now in the books, the respective conference championship game matchups are set.

On Saturday, the season came to an ignominious end for Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos, who fell 45-10 to the New England Patriots. Denver's defense had no answer for Tom Brady, who threw six touchdown passes in the win, while the Broncos offense never got going.

San Francisco prevailed in a 36-32 win over New Orleans that saw the lead change hands four times in the final five minutes. Alex Smith hit tight end Vernon Davis with just nine seconds remaining to seal the win for the 49ers.

On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens used a 17-point first quarter to get by the Houston Texans, 20-13, in what was otherwise a defensive battle.

The surprise of the weekend came courtesy the New York Giants, who rolled past top seed Green Bay in impressive fashion on Sunday night. With an out-of-sync offense and a faltering-as-usual defense, the Packers lost by a decisive 37-20 margin.

Here's how the schedule sets up for next weekend:

AFC Championship (Sunday, Jan. 22): New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens at 2 p.m. CT on CBS

NFC Championship (Sunday, Jan. 22): San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Giants at 5:30 p.m. CT on FOX
