The Chicago Bears announced some significant personnel changes on Tuesday -- the team is now in the market for a new general manager, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach -- but they've been clear on the fact that Lovie Smith will return as the head coach in 2012.
But Smith's future in Chicago could hinge on the next general manager, as the NFL Network's Albert Breer writes. Is there a scenario that could eventually bring Jeff Fisher to Chicago? Breer believes so:
If a younger executive type, such as Eric DeCosta or Les Snead comes in, then the coaching situation likely won't change. But if the Bears swing for the fences with a Bill Polian type, it's hard to rule anything out. And Polian and [Jeff] Fisher are close, having competed in the AFC South for a number of years.
Breer also cites a source who says that the Chicago job is "the one [Fisher has] always wanted."
