Jermichael Finley Is A Tough Matchup For The Chicago Bears, But He Can Be Limited

Matt Bowen of the National Football Post is a former NFL safety who often breaks games down with exquisite detail, and this week he focuses on how the Chicago Bears can limit Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley. Earlier this season Finley had his best game of the year against the Bears, hauling in seven passes for 85 yards and three touchdowns. Bowen doesn't like the idea of playing cover-one and isolating a safety on Finley, but he expects the Bears defense to have better success in Tampa-2 if Brian Urlacher stays in sound technique against the athletic tight end. Here is the best bit of his strategic breakdown for the game on Sunday night:

Zone/Man pressure: The Bears will use some man-pressure, but I expect to see more zone blitz concepts on Sunday out their base and Nickel personnel. In Chicago's zone pressure schemes, they will rush five and drop six into coverage. Show Cover 2, stem to the blitz front and force Rodgers to throw hot with zone coverage principles in the backend (three-deep, three-under). The key vs. Finley is the play of the seam-flat defenders (responsible for No.2 strong and weak). When Rodgers reads blitz at the line of scrimmage drive downhill, maintain leverage and tackle vs. the Packers' TE in the open field. You can't sit in Cover 2 the entire night and you have to show some form of pressure. The routes to look for here: slant, option, quick seam, 7 (corner).

If the Bears can find a way to limit Finley, they might have a chance to keep the game close and pull it out in the end.

NFL Picks Week 16: Fox Sports Expert Predicts Bears Lose A Close One

SB Nation Chicago is continuing to collect experts picks for Week 16 in the NFL, and now turns to Peter Schrager of Fox Sports for his picks. Schrager is down on the Chicago Bears this week, but it is hard to blame him considering the team has dropped four games in a row. Here is what he had to say about the Christmas night matchup with the Green Bay Packers

Chicago at Green Bay: Suddenly, the perfect Packers resemble a bit of a patchwork M*A*S*H unit. Linemen Bryan BulagaDerek Sherrod and Chad Clifton should all be out for Sunday night's game because of injuries, while Greg Jennings and running backs James Starks and Brandon Saine will be out, too.

The Bears offense is a mess, but that defensive front seven could cause problems for Aaron Rodgers playing behind a beaten up offensive line.

I'll take the Packers at home, but this is no cake walk.

The Pick: Packers 24, Bears 16

As for the rest of the NFC North, Schrager believes the Detroit Lions will dispatch the San Diego Chargers by a score of 34-23, and that the Washington Redskins will defeat the Minnesota Vikings, 27-14.

NFL Picks Week 16: CBS Sports Can't Find A Good Reason To Take The Bears

When the Chicago Bears hit 7-3 coming out of the Week 11 action, most fans were thinking about playoff matchups, but now the team is sitting at 7-7 and hoping Josh McCown can keep their very slim playoff hopes alive against the Green Bay Packers. CBS Sports' panel of five experts has weighed in on the Bears' chances this week, but unfortunately they are in complete agreement that the Packers will win to sweep the season series. Here is what Pete Prisco had to say in his personal picks column:

The Bears have been a disaster on offense since Jay Cutler got hurt. Caleb Hanie can't get it done. The Packers looked lifeless last week against the Chiefs, so that won't be the case here. Green Bay does have some injury concerns up front on the offensive line, and that's a worry with Julius Peppers on the other side, but Aaron Rodgers doesn't have two so-so games in a row. Packers get back on track. Packers 31, Bears 17.

A loss would mathematically eliminate the Bears from playoff contention. Here's how the rest of the NFC North is treated: the panel has a 4-1 split siding with the San Diego Chargers over the Detroit Lions, and a 4-1 split selecting the Washington Redskins to beat the lowly Minnesota Vikings.

NFL Picks Week 16: AOL Sporting News Predicts Bears Lose In A Christmas Night Blowout

SB Nation Chicago is continuing to gather NFL Week 16 picks from around the web for the Christmas night matchup between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers. The teams are heading in different directions, as the Packers are looking to lock up home field advantage in the NFC playoffs, while the Bears are turning to Josh McCown to keep their slim hopes alive. Vinnie Iyer of AOL Sporting News has released his picks for this week, and here is what he has to say about the Bears' chances:

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers, 8:20 p.m. Sunday. No, we're not talking about the Bears here. Without Jay Cutler and Matt Forte, their offense has been even worse than expected, and now journeyman Josh McCown will get thrown into the fire. Instead, let's focus on the Packers, who will learn a lot from the lumps they took at Kansas City. With perfection out of the picture, Green Bay can just concentrate on locking up the No. 1 seed in the NFC. On Christmas night, the Packers will wrap it up with a nice Green and Gold bow, taking extra pleasure in playing the Grinch to their archrivals. Packers 31, Bears 13.

As for the rest of the NFC North, here is how Iyer sees the action developing:

Iyer is 148-76 for the year-to-date, and went 7-9 straight up in Week 15.
