Jay Cutler Injury: Cutler To Undergo Surgery On Wednesday, According To Report

Stay connected for news and updates

Sources have informed ESPN Chicago that injured Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will undergo surgery on his fractured right thumb in Vail, Colorado on Wednesday. Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo later confirmed this report, according to Bears radio network reporter Zach Zaidman.

The organization hopes to get Cutler back on the field before the end of the regular season:

"The plan is to get him back at the latter part of the regular season," Smith told reporters. "This is what I wanted to know, 'Was it a season-ending injury?' No. From what I've been told right now, we can expect him back at the end of the regular season. For me, that's enough to go on."

Until then, the starting quarterback job is Caleb Hanie's, and the organization is exploring the addition of a veteran quaterback, like Kyle Orton perhaps.
