Quotable: Bears Players And Coach Lovie Smith On Sunday's Loss

Lovie Smith:

“You have to be ready each week to play your best ball, and we didn’t play our best ball today. We came in offensively, and didn’t get anything done. Third downs on the offensive side of the football, we can’t reach the place we are trying to go until we can take care of third downs. I don’t think we completed one today. Protection-wise, still a problem, something we have to fix. Never really got the running game established; didn’t get a whole lot done. The other side of the football, you have to take the ball away, simple as that. Their quarterback had control of the game most of the time. Mike Williams had a career day it seemed like against us. Again, if you can’t convert on the offensive side and on the defensive side, if you’re letting them convert, and you’re not getting any takeaways, it’s going to be a tough day. Special teams-wise, of course that was big for Devin. We rely on our special teams quite a bit, but it was a little too late. Zack Bowman went out, besides that, injury-wise we didn’t have too much. Just didn’t get a lot done.”

Jay Cutler on pass protection:

“We’ve got to figure it out. It’s becoming a problem. It is on me, it’s on the offensive line and it’s on the receivers. We’ve got to go in tomorrow, look at the film and make some corrections somewhere along the line and figure it out. I’ve got to get the ball out quicker. We’ve got to identify who’s coming and who’s not and the receivers got to see it too.”

Devin Hester, always quotable on just about anything:

“We just got to rally each other up. When one guy missed a block on a play like that, you’ve just got to keep his confidence up and we just got to step up. The team captains and the bigger leaders on this team [have] to motivate those guys to let them know that ‘You made a mistake, let’s get it together now; we’re going to have more opportunities like this.’ You’ve just got to be more vocal and let the guys know to keep fighting.”
