Mike Rice used gay slur while Robert Morris coach, former player says

The video that surfaced of Mike Rice verbally and physically abusing players at Rutgers is not the first time he has displayed such behavior. A former player for Rice says that the coach used gay slurs and threw a basketball "once or twice" while at Robert Morris, according to the Associated Press.

The unnamed player's accusations give credit to a former Rutgers staff member who said that Rice was a part of "coaches versus players" brawls while at Robert Morris from 2007-2010.

The Associated Press added that Robert Morris athletic director Craig Coleman said an internal investigation uncovered no evidence of those fights. The investigation did reveal that Rice directed homophobic slurs at a player and got into a shoving match with another player at halftime.

Rice was fired last week by Rutgers in wake of the video being featured on ESPN's Outside the Lines. Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti resigned shortly after Rice's firing.

Ryan Kelly injury: Duke F undergoes foot surgery

On Tuesday, Duke forward Ryan Kelly will undergo surgery on the right foot that kept him out 13 games this season. During the season it was unclear if surgery would ever be necessary, but the decision to go forward with it was made after Duke was eliminated from the NCAA tournament, according to The Chronicle.

More: Blue vs. Blue

After sitting out those 13 games this season, Kelly came back in a memorable way by pouring in 36 points against Miami. That would prove to be the best he would look all season, though. In the NCAA tournament, he averaged 6.3 points per game and went 1-for-13 from beyond the arc.

For the season, Kelly averaged 12.9 points and 5.3 assists per game for Duke.

His Duke career ended in the Elite Eight with a loss to eventual champion Louisville, so the focus on his recovery is if he will be ready for draft workouts. There is currently no timetable for his return, but an update is expected after surgery.

Louisville men's team denied request to travel for women's title game

UPDATE: The NCAA offered an expedited waiver for Louisville to attend the women's game, but the school declined due to travel plans already in place, reports ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

With one national title in the books, the Louisville men's basketball team hoped to travel down to New Orleans to watch the women's team battle Connecticut for a championship on Tuesday night. That request has been denied by the NCAA, though, according to Jody Demling of Cardinal Authority.

More: Card Chronicle Swish Appeal

A school-funded trip to New Orleans to attend the women's title game would be deemed an extra benefit by the NCAA. Essentially, if the Louisville players want to go, they will need to pay their own way there.

What Rick Pitino's squad will likely be missing is a chance to see Louisville in the women's championship for just the second time in school history. The last time the Cardinals were there was in 2009, when they lost to Connecticut, 76-54.

A win for Louisville would match a Division I accomplishment that has only been pulled off in 2004, when both the men's and women's team from Connecticut won the national title. On Monday night, the Louisville men's team defeated Michigan, 82-76, in the championship game.

The women's game will tip-off at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN on Tuesday.

Michigan vs. Louisville, 2013 NCAA Championship: Wolverines unable to get things going in 2nd half

With the 82-76 loss to the Louisville Cardinals in the national title game, the best season in 20 years for the Michigan Wolverines came to an end on Monday night.

Although the early heroics of Spike Albrecht had some feeling that Michigan was a team of destiny, Louisville quickly responded due to the shooting from Luke Hancock.

After the halftime, the game belonged to Louisville, and as SB nation's Michigan blog Maize n Brew points out, that was partly because Trey Burke had little supporting help over the final 20 minutes.

The second half would see Michigan struggle to consistently execute as Louisville had all the right moves. The lead would slowly grow despite the efforts of Trey Burke, who finished with 24 points despite spending 14 first half minutes on the bench. Mitch McGary, the tournament's breakout star, would score just six points and pull in six rebounds while getting into foul trouble midway through the second half.

Louisville won because of pressure, which forced Michigan into a number of uncharacteristic mistakes, and offensive rebounding in the second half.

In the end, Michigan fell short of both a Big Ten and NCAA title, but the season was still the best the school has had since the Fab Five. The attention now turns to which Michigan players will return for next season.

Tarik Black transferring from Memphis, says Josh Pastner

With his role on the Memphis Tigers declining, Tarik Black has decided to transfer from Memphis for his senior season. Because he is graduating in the spring, Black does not have to sit out a season, according to Jason Smith of The Commercial Appeal.

Black averaged career-lows in minutes, points and rebounds for Memphis this past season. After starting 55 games during the first two seasons, he started just five games as a junior. He lost that starting job after walking out of a practice.

In wake of his departure, Memphis coach Josh Pastner said he was happy to see him get his degree at Memphis (via the Commercial Appeal):

"I just think maybe he wants a little change of scenery. But like I said, he's graduating in three years and part of my responsibility is to make sure these guys have an opportunity to graduate. Tarik's getting his degree. We wish him nothing but the very best wherever he chooses to go."

One condition of his release from Memphis is that Black cannot transfer to any school that will be on the Tigers' schedule next season.

NCAA championship 2013, Louisville vs. Michigan: Luke Hancock secures place in Final Four history

Long before the Louisville Cardinals defeated the Michigan Wolverines 82-76 to win the national title, Rick Pitino's squad was in danger of being run out of the building. Michigan's Spike Albrecht was playing the game of his life, and the Wolverines appeared poised to close the half up by double digits.

Enter Luke Hancock, who got his team back into the game by hitting four three-pointers in the final three minutes to cut the Michigan lead to one point at the half.

Hancock would finish with 22 points, the Most Outstanding Player trophy and a place in Louisville history. As SB Nation's Louisville blog Card Chronicle writes, it wasn't long ago that the fans wished he would never see the court.

Cardinal fans quickly took to the Internet to declare that Hancock "wasn't a Louisville caliber player." There were also a handful of instances at home games where the "oooos" from the crowd weren't shows of support in the form of a first-name cheer.

While Hancock erased doubts for most across the country with his Final Four performances, it was his reaction to the Kevin Ware injury that began to endear him to the Louisville faithful. As Card Chronicle recalls, Hancock rushed over to his injured teammate and said a prayer.

Ware, who was attempting to fight off shock at the time, expressed days later just how much Hancock's actions allowed him to stay strong in front of the rest of his teammates.

"I really, really want to thank Luke," Ware said at a press conference three days later. "Because Luke jumped right on the scene like the captain that he is and just said a prayer for me. When he was saying that prayer what was going through my head was I'm either going to cry and my team is going to be devastated and we probably won't win this game or I'm going to just try to say some words to get us through."

No matter what happened in Atlanta, Hancock was a true Cardinal in the fans' eyes after that moment. Luckily for Louisville, though, Hancock wasn't done.

The "role player" had his two highest point totals of the season in his final two games, and on a team full of potential NBA players, it was his performance that will never be forgotten.

More in College Basketball:

Sweet 16 power rankings: Louisville still the favorite, Duke and Kansas not far behind

Things can change pretty quickly in the NCAA Tournament. Just a week ago, Gonzaga was a title contender, Michigan was ripe for the picking and nobody knew where Dunk City was located.

Seeding goes out the window at this point, as just two wins separate each remaining team from the Final Four. Still, let's look at how the tournament should be re-seeded, you know, if they did that sort of thing.

1. Louisville Cardinals

While other higher seeds have struggled, Louisville has made the committee look smart to give it the No. 1 overall seed in the field. The Cardinals have won both of their games by at least 26 points, and Russ Smith is the early favorite for the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. This is still your front-runner.

2. Duke Blue Devils

The bad news for Louisville is that Duke is playing just as well at the bottom of the region. Already an offensive juggernaut, the scary part of the Blue Devils' tournament run is how they looked defensively, as they held Creighton, who averages 75.4 points per game, to just 50 points in the third round.

3. Kansas Jayhawks

Bill Self's crew sort of sleepwalked through its first three halves of basketball in this year's tournament but turned it on in the second half against North Carolina to outscore the Tar Heels by 21 points. Jeff Withey is doing his Thomas Robinson impression, and if Ben McLemore can get things going, watch out.

4. Indiana Hoosiers

Were it not for some stellar late-game execution against Temple, the Hoosiers would be sitting at home as one of the biggest flops in NCAA Tournament history. Instead, Indiana lives to see another day, and with so much scoring depth, it seems almost impossible that they will replicate that 33.9 percent shooting and 52 points the Owls held them to.

5. Florida Gators

The NCAA Tournament has been a breeze so far for Florida, which is coming off a game against Minnesota where they shot nearly 57 percent from the field. While Florida Gulf Coast is the tournament darling, the fact of the matter is the Gators play a 15-seed in the Sweet 16, and that bodes well for their quest for a Final Four bid.

6. Michigan Wolverines

It seems as though getting out of the Big Ten is exactly what the Wolverines needed, as they have dominated their first two games after sputtering down the stretch of conference play. The most important part of the 25-point thrashing of VCU was the emergence of freshman Mitch McGary, who finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

7. Michigan State Spartans

To get the Sweet 16, Michigan State played a strong first half against Valparaiso and a strong second half against Memphis. The rest of both of those games are surely keeping Tom Izzo up at night. The Spartans will need to piece together a complete effort the rest of the way, as they have perhaps the toughest road to the national title game.

8. Ohio State Buckeyes

Regardless of where they rank here, the Buckeyes have the easiest path to the Final Four. That's a good thing, as Ohio State's much-celebrated defense didn't exactly shut down Iowa State. In that win, Aaron Craft had 18 points and a game winning three-pointer, and ultimately, his ability to support Deshaun Thomas offensively will dictate how far this team can go.

9. Miami Hurricanes

The way the Hurricanes got to the Sweet 16 doesn't exactly give confidence to anyone who had them heading any further. Miami needed questionable officiating and clutch shooting from Shane Larkin to get past Illinois, who was probably seeded too high in the first place. The team's toughness will be in question as it prepares to face rugged Marquette.

10. Wichita State Shockers

By dominating Pittsburgh and shooting the lights out against top seed Gonzaga, the Shockers not only have a spot in the Sweet 16, but they are the higher seed in the game. Defense has been the key, as neither opponent shot better than 35.6 percent from the field. Things are shaping up nicely for Wichita State to cement their name in Cinderella history next to George Mason, Butler and VCU.

11. Syracuse Orange

Despite two easy victories, Syracuse is a tough team to judge at this point because its level of competition has been so bad in the NCAA Tournament. One certainty, though, is that it cannot go on a 12-minute field goal drought like it did against California if it expects to beat Indiana.

12. Oregon Ducks

What seed Oregon started the tournament as is a moot point, as it won the two games it needed to in order to make the Sweet 16. Damyean Dotson, the best freshman you've never heard of, has carried the team with a total of 40 points in wins over Oklahoma State and Saint Louis.

13. Arizona Wildcats

The Wildcats haven't exactly faced the toughest schedule, but in wins over Belmont and Harvard, they have executed at the level that was expected of them when they were ranked No. 12 to start the season. With 50 points in two games, Mark Lyons has been phenomenal and the primary reason their two wins have been so easy.

14. Marquette Golden Eagles

It took two nail-biting games, but Marquette has made it to the Sweet 16. Surprisingly, the tournament's worst long-range shooting team relied on clutch three-point shooting to get this far. With its tough nature, the Golden Eagles might not have the best team in the field, but it will take their opponent's best effort to knock them out.

15. Florida Gulf Coast Eagles

Dunk City is now the capital of the basketball universe. Playing an almost perfect draw for their abilities, the Eagles have looked like an offensive machine against slower-paced Georgetown and San Diego State, scoring at least 78 points in each game. Regardless of how this story finishes up, it's the best one of this year's tournament.

16. La Salle Explorers

Overshadowed by Florida Gulf Coast, the Explorers have had a magical run of their own. After winning its First Four game, La Salle's two most recent wins have been two-point decisions that were decided in the final seconds. With the West region in shambles, a Final Four appearance is completely plausible.

Two weeks after performing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, Alicia Keys will continue her tour around major sporting events by being the sole act for the halftime show at the NBA All-Star Game.

Keys released her fifth studio album, Girl On Fire, back on November 22, 2012. Her lead single from that album, also entitled "Girl On Fire," reached No. 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song has an "Inferno Version" that features Nicki Minaj.

Her latest single from the album is "Brand New Me."

Keys is known as much for her voice, as she is for her piano skills. She performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl while playing the piano and is expected to have one on stage Sunday in Houston. There are not expected to be any guest performers with her.

The event has had several notable female performers in the past. Since 2003, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera, Shakira and Rihanna have all taken the stage during halftime.

Carey's halftime show is one of the most memorable in league history, as she performed a tribute to Michale Jordan in 2003, while wearing his Washington Wizards' jersey.

When the NBA All-Star game was in Houston in 2006, John Legend and Carrie Underwood were the performers. A year ago, Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Nayer and Chris Brown performed at halftime in Orlando.

A native of New York, Keys has been seen at New York Knicks' games with her husband, Swizz Beatz. Last season, they made a one of their first public appearances with their baby son, Egypt, at a Knicks game.

Keys isn't the only performer on All-Star Sunday. Legend is performing the national anthem before the game, while Gloria Reuben will perform the Canadian national anthem.

On Saturday night, Ellie Goulding, Phillip Phillips and Fall Out Boy performed during the festivities.
