2012 MLB Standings: White Sox Holding On To 1-Game Lead

The Chicago White Sox ended up tied with the Detroit Tigers for the lead in the American League Central Division after being swept in their three-game set on Aug. 31-Sept. 2. But they've re-gained the lead thanks to their series against the Minnesota Twins in which they took two out of three games, while the Tigers manages to lose to the Cleveland Indians in two of their three games.

Detroit will go on to play the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game set, but the White Sox have a much tougher opponent, at least when they're concerned: the Kansas City Royals. Despite being 13.5 games back of the AL Central lead, the Royals give the White Sox all kinds of trouble. The last time they met, Kansas City got the three-game sweep.

Either way, the AL Central is a two-team race at this point. Kansas City, Cleveland and Minnesota are 13.5 games, 16.5 games and 18.5 games back, respectively. Chicago will take on Detroit again for a four-game series immediately after their series with Kansas City, and it could be the deciding factor in the division.
