Cubs vs. Rockies preview: Chicago looks to avoid sweep

Stay connected for news and updates

The Chicago Cubs haven't had a great start to their final road trip of the season, dropping the first two games of a three-game set with the Rockies by a combined score of 16-5. They'll send Chris Volstad (3-10, 6.22 ERA) to the hill to stop the bleeding, where he'll face Jhoulys Chacin (2-5, 4.73 ERA). Volstad will need to be sharp, as the Rockies have put up at least 10 hits in their last six games, and are averaging 6½ runs per game over that stretch.

Other than the Astros, the Cubs and Rockies have the two worst records in the National League this season, and don't have a ton to play for besides pride. The Cubs need to win four of their final seven games to avoid a 100 loss season. A sweep for the Rockies would be their first in over a month.

First pitch is 2:10 p.m. CT from Denver.
