Northern Illinois Vs. Army 2012: Huskies Win Over Army By A Missed Extra Point

Northern Illinois and Army met on Saturday in what turned out to be an extremely entertaining affair. Both teams would pile up the offense, combining for more than 1,000 yards of total offense. In the end, the high-scoring game was decided by a missed extra point in the second quarter.

Army came in with a very simple game plan. They run the triple option, and they run it a lot. They ran it very successfully on Saturday, dominating time of possession and running for 486 of their 494 total yards. Raymond Maples, Trent Steelman and Larry Dixon all rushed for more than 100 yards, with Maples leading the charge with 159.

Northern Illinois has a much more balanced offense, and like Army, they executed well on Saturday. Jordan Lynch had a heck of a game, throwing for 342 yards and four scores while also leading the Huskies' ground game with 125 yards and a touchdown. Martel Moore led Huskies receivers with 134 yards on seven catches and a pair of touchdowns. Tommylee Lewis chipped in with 79 yards on two receptions and a score.

Northern Illinois will host Kansas on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game is scheduled to be shown on ESPN2.

Northern Illinois Vs. Army: Northern Illinois Leads By 9 At The Half

Oddsmakers didn't see a huge difference between Army and Northern Illinois, but the Huskies have looked better than a three point favorite for most of the first half. Northern Illinois have taken the game into the halftime break with a 28-19 lead.

Army received the ball to start the game, and they didn't surprise anyone by coming out running the football. Raymond Maples has already run for 90-yards and a score, and he's been complimented well by Larry Dixon. Dixon goes into halftime with 71-yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

The Huskies first half can be summed up by just looking at one player's line. Quarterback Jordan Lynch has completed six of eight for 164-yards and a pair of touchdowns, and he's also chipped in with 109-yards on the ground. The bulk of his rushing came on an 88-yard touchdown run.

The Black Knights got the ball to start the game, so Northern Illinois will receive to start the second half.
