The Northern Illinois Huskies look to improve to a winning record as they face the Army Black Knights on Saturday. Norther Illinois is 1-1 after a narrow loss to Iowa in their season opener, 18-17, and a dominant 35-7 win over Tennessee-Martin. Army is 0-1 so far this season, losing to San Diego State, 42-7.
Junior Jordan Lynch has had an up-and-down start to his first year as the starting quarterback. He had a weak performance in Week 1, going 6-for-16 for a total of 54 yards, but he rebounded in Week 2 with a 19-for-24 214 yard performance. He can also run the ball, racking up 179 yards on 29 carries through the first two games, including a long run of 73 yards and four rushing touchdowns. That makes him the team's leading rusher; junior running back Leighton Settle has 139 yards on 31 carries with no scores.
The Huskies face a defense that can keep up with their offense, as the Army squad is well conditioned and shouldn't fade against the no-huddle offense. The Huskies defense is another question. Army's offense has a fairly strong pace of their own, and it will require Northern Illinois' best effort to not fade late in the game.
