According to John "Moon" Mullin of CSN Chicago, the Chicago Bears may have a left tackle controversy brewing. Mullin says LT J'Marcus Webb's poor performance in the opening preseason game -- through three quarters, no less -- may cost him his starting job.
Webb says, however, that the first bad game should not spoil his rough outing:
"It was just the first week of preseason, just a starting point," Williams said. "Just have to work hard and get better. I didn’t feel like I played a long time but it was fun being out there."
Webb, 24, is in his third season with the Chicago Bears and has 28 starts since entering the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick.

The Chicago Bears are presumably grateful that Thursday night's game was meaningless, as they brutally lost their preseason opener 31-3 to the Denver Broncos at Soldier Field. Right from the beginning, the Broncos appeared to be the more prepared team, never trailing in an utterly disappointing effort by Chicago.
After rain delays knocked Jay Cutler and Matt Forte out of the starting lineup, things just went straight downhill from there. The Bears managed to end Peyton Manning's first and only drive of the game with an interception, but they quickly returned the favor with a Michael Bush fumble that ultimately led to the game's first score.
The offense didn't really work on any level on Thursday, reminding fans of the unfortunate performances that unit had late last season. With just 132 total yards and as many turnovers as points, it's easy to imagine new offensive coordinator Mike Tice trying to figure out exactly what so wrong against the Broncos.

The Chicago Bears haven't had Jay Cutler and Matt Forte on the field for their preseason opener on Thursday night, and it's been quite obvious in their offensive performance. The team has struggled to muster much of anything so far against the Denver Broncos, who lead 10-0 at Soldier Field going into halftime.
With Jason Campbell starting in place of Cutler and Michael Bush in place of Forte, the Bears didn't really get the results that they were presumably hoping for in the first half. With just 41 total yards, Chicago's supposedly re-invented offense hasn't reared its head yet, and the defense hasn't dominated, either.
Peyton Manning played just one series for Denver, but he led them into the red zone before throwing an interception to Major Wright on a pass tipped by D.J. Moore. Manning was 4-of-7 for 44 yards in his time, while replacement Caleb Hanie has been 7-of-14 for 79 yards in his debut with Denver.

As the Chicago Bears finally open their 2012 preseason slate of games on Thursday night against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, everyone will be watching Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall on the first few offensive series. Matt Bowen thinks the Bears will be working hard to incorporate some play action bootleg plays into the offense this season, so he has provided an in-depth breakdown of how Chicago will attack opposing defenses and why viewers might get an exciting early look at the Cutler-to-Marshall connection on Thursday:
The detailed strategic breakdowns from Bowen are always great to watch, so hopefully they take his advice and use Cutler's athletic ability outside the pocket and on the move far more often than Mike Martz did last season. If so, this could be a very exciting offensive unit to watch during the upcoming season.
Here is the game time and TV information for the preseason opener against the Broncos on Thursday:
Game time: 7:30 PM
Location: Solider Field; Chicago, Illinois
