Sunday is, of course, reserved for the final round of a golf tournament, but that is not the case at the 2012 PGA Championship. Due to thunderstorms, Saturday's third round was cut short, leaving a handful of golfers at or near the top of the leaderboard with rounds still to finish. So Sunday's action will begin there, before turning over to the final round somewhere in the late morning.
When the golfers headed into the clubhouse on Saturday, it was Rory McIlroy who was in the lead at 7-under, after shooting a blazing 5-under on the day. He has a three shot lead on three golfers— Trevor Immelman, Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson— who are tied for second. Tiger Woods, who entered the round with a share of the lead, had a dreadful day, falling back to 2-under.
Illinois graduate Steve Stricker is in seventh place at 2-under after shooting 5-under, while Northwestern graduate Luke Donald is far down the leaderboard at 8-over.

Rain has paused Round 3 of the 2012 PGA Players Championship, and Illinois graduate Steve Stricker is likely more eager than the rest to get back on the course. Stricker, one of the few players to finish all 18 holes Saturday, has jumped 30 spots on the leaderboard to slide into a tie at No. 7 on the merit of 6 birdies and 1 bogey.
Meanwhile, Northwestern grad Luke Donald has tumbled to No. 65 with an 8-over. He managed 4 birdies, but also 4 bogeys and a crucial double-bogey on Hole 16.
Here's a look at the top five standings:

Entering Saturday's third round of the 2012, Illinois graduate Steve Stricker is within striking distance of a top 10 finish at the 2012 PGA Championship. Stricker enters Saturday at 3-over, which puts him only three shots off of the top 10. There are plenty of golfers, though, bunched in between— despite being three shots off, Stricker is only tied for 37th place.
Northwestern grad Luke Donald, still the No. 1 ranked player in the world, has not fared as well. Donald barely slipped in under the cutline on Saturday, finishing his second round at 6-over for the tournament, which was right where the cut was. He'll be looking to make a strong push on Saturday.

Tiger Woods has been the favorite in every PGA major championship so far in 2012, but he has yet to secure a victory. He's put himself in good position to change that at the PGA Championship this weekend, as he will head into Saturday tied atop the leaderboard at 4-under with Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson. On a blustery Friday, Woods was only one of four golfers to shoot under par, finishing the round at 1-under.
Luke Donald— the Northwestern graduate and No. 1 ranked player in the world— narrowly made the cut, finishing his second round at 6-over, which is exactly where the cut line is. Donald shot 4-over on Friday. Steve Stricker fared a bit better, shooting 1-over on Friday to finish the second round at 3-over through the weekend.
Some notable players to miss the cut include Sergio Garcia, Webb Simpson, Davis Love III, Lee Westwood, Hunter Mahan, Stewart Cink and Rickie Fowler.

Players coming to Kiawah Island should be expecting quite the challenge as they compete in the 94th edition of the PGA Championship this year, as Steve DiMeglio of USA Today writes.
Between the unusually long distances of the Pete Dye-designed course, windy conditions and a forecast of scattered storms throughout the weekend, low scores shouldn't be expected:
Length will create plenty of stress. The course, which can tip out at 7,967 yards but is expected to play 7,676, still the longest in major championship history, is drenched following numerous soakings the past three days. Forced carries over hazards, deep greenside bunkers, broad sweeps of sandy wasteland and severe putting surfaces add to the anxiety.
As DiMeglio notes, The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island has received the highest Course Rating (an estimation of what a scratch golfer would shoot) of any major in the past ten years by the United States Golf Association. With a figure of 79.7, it's well above the 78.3 figure of Course No. 3 at the Medinah Country Club, which held the 2006 PGA Championship.

Luke Donald and Martin Laird will help kick off the 2012 PGA Championship on Thursday.
Northwestern graduate Luke Donald is the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, but heading into the 2012 PGA Championship, there is one player that is a heavier favorites to win than him. That player, of course, is Tiger Woods who checks in with 7/4 odds. Donald is tabbed with 10/3 odds, which ties him for second with Rory McIlroy.
Steve Stricker isn't too far off the top of the list. Stricker clocks in at No. 11, at 7/1 odds. That puts him ahead of both reigning PGA champion Keegan Bradley and British Open winner Ernie Els. Masters winner Bubba Watson is being given 8/1 odds of winning the year's final major.
Here are the top 10 favorites to win the 2012 PGA, according to Bovada:
