Chicago native Wallace Spearmon competed in the sixth heat during the first round of the men's 200-meter sprint at the 2012 London Olympics. Spearmon ran a time of 20.47 seconds which put him second in his heat behind Alex Quinonez of Ecuador.

Spearmon is trying to put the disaster of the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing behind him. The sprinter was disqualified for stepping out of his lane after finishing third in the 200-meter final and would have earned himself a bronze medal.

He qualified for the London games in July when he ran a time of 19.83 seconds and won the men's 200-meter at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Or.

The semifinal of the men's 200-meter will take place on Wednesday.
